The Robotics Lab, together with the AI Lab and the E-Media Lab, is part of the Electronic Media Department within the Faculty of Art.
It explores the relationship between humans and machines in art and addresses questions of perception, interaction, morphology, and materiality. Its focus is on both the application of technology and a critical examination of it.
Creative exploration of machines and their ecosystems includes building custom machines and developing control systems, which are combined into interactive systems in the lab.
An important emphasis is placed on human–machine interaction, mutual perception, environmental awareness, and embodiment.
The Robotics Lab also offers opportunities to experiment with creating objects, exploring specific material properties, and working with sensory and responsive materials.
Its aim is to support the precise realization of individual ideas and the development of a personal artistic language. The lab emphasizes collaborative work, the exchange of knowledge, and an experimental approach. It invites participants to view technology as a creative tool.
This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the joint initiative “KITeGG – Making AI tangible and comprehensible: Connecting technology and society through design.”
