Professor (pay scale W2) of Sculpture
initially for a limited period of six years.
The Hessen State University of Art and Design in Offenbach/Main is an institute of higher education with university status. Taking its lead from the educational and research models of the Bauhaus and the Ulm School of Design (HfG), teaching at HfG Offenbach is contemporary and future-oriented and is characterized by a varied exchange between the liberal, applied and theoretical areas of study.
HfG Offenbach wishes to hire a renowned personality who represents sculpture from the perspective of its contemporary liberation from boundaries. The successful candidate should have an awareness of the transitions between sculpture, installation, performance and time-based media. Since it is part of the teaching concept at HfG Offenbach, an exploration of the social dimensions of art and of relevant discourses is also expressly desired.
The successful candidate’s tasks will include artistic-experimental teaching and supervising of students on basic and advanced courses, including preparing them for their final degree examination, and the artistic part of dissertation projects on the doctoral studies program. Interfaces to other creative artistic and theoretical/scientific subjects at the university would be welcomed. We would expect the candidate to become involved in the university’s autonomous committees.
Qualifications: As a rule, a university degree in the visual arts, outstanding artistic achievements, several years of artistic practice together with an aptitude for teaching. The employment requirements pursuant to sections 61, 62 HHG (Hessen Higher Education Act) apply.
The full-time position advertised (teaching load: 18 hours per semester week) is initially limited to a period of six years only, but providing evaluation is successful it may be possible to later convert the post to a tenured professorship.
