In September 2014, Klaus Hesse, Professor of Conceptional Design at HfG Offenbach held a 14-day workshop at the Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA) and at the GXNU School of Design in Guilin each with 30 participants.
As regards topic, students explored visual identification featuers of cultural historical relevance. The background to the workshops is the founding of the magazine "Outlandish". The magazine focuses largely on unfamliliar functional cultures, artisanship, traditions and folklore Every issue collects, documents, analyzes and re-designs visual identification featurs of unknown lifestyles. The findings were exhibited at the participating universities.

In addition, Klaus Hesse conducted talks on cooperation with Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA). It is the largest art academy in China with over 10,000 students in the areas of art, design, media, fashion, drama, stage, music and dance. The subjects offered at NUA compare with the range on offer at UDK Berlin
