Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Offenbach, Kunsthochschule des Landes Hessen (Hessen State University of Art and Design) with the right to award doctorates is looking to employ at the earliest possible date a

Professor (W2) for the field of teaching Interaction Design in the Department of Design.

In the Department of Design, students receive instruction in theoretical and practical aspects of Industrial Design, Integrating Design, Material Design, as well as Technology in Design and Cultural and Design Theory.

Assignment

Alongside the abovementioned subjects, the field of teaching Interaction Design is to be established as a new, interdisciplinary field of teaching and research in the subject area. It is an element of the new interdisciplinary research project Mobility Design, which, led by HfG, is being conducted from 2018-2021 as part of the Hessen LOEWE state research program »Infrastructure – Design – Society: Design Research in Mobility Systems for the Development of multi-modal, environmentally-friendly Mobility in the Rhine-Main Conurbation.« Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Goethe University Frankfurt, and Technische Universität Darmstadt are cooperation partners. Interaction Design is to be integrated in the LOEWE Mobility Design project as an independent, but interdisciplinary area of research and included in teaching in the Department of Design.

The Chair concentrates on the shaping of interactive systems at the design interface – from graphic interface design, concepts for operating devices, and the development of operating structures to the experimental development of complex interactions in real and virtual spaces, as a whole or as part of a system. Interaction Design is seen as a major area of expertise in design. The teaching duties for Basic and Advanced Courses and active involvement in the LOEWE research focus Mobility Design embrace the teaching of strategies (among other things system theory), technologies (among other things open source) and techniques (scripting, etc.) for user-friendly design with a particular focus on the development of and research into future human-machine systems.

Qualification

A university degree in Design is a prerequisite for the position. The successful candidate will have relevant experience in design practice, as well as in research and teaching in the field of interaction design. We are looking for a designer figure particularly suited and motivated to engage in the exploratory processing of academic findings and their practical application.

The appointment is for a period of four years, with the possibility of the time restriction being lifted.

The conditions governing appointments defined in sections 61 and 62 of the Hessen Higher Education Act apply. In accordance with section 3 para. 3 of the Teaching Responsibilities Decree (LVVO) for Hessen, the full-time position has a teaching load of 18 hours per semester week. HfG Offenbach is striving for an increase in the proportion of women in research and teaching. For this reason, applications from women are particularly welcome.
