B3 Biennal 2020: Truths
As a cross-media moving image festival with film screenings, exhibitions, conference and workshop programs, as well as various competition formats, B3 will promote the cross-genre and cross-national discourse on trends and developments in moving images in the fields of film, art, games and VR/XR from October 9 to 18, 2020. National and international artists and media professionals will speak out on the future of storytelling in the digital age.
The B3 focuses 2020 on TRUTHS and ties thereby to the preceding REALITIES. In today's heated and information-intensive times, the questioning of presented and accepted truths is becoming increasingly important. In its individual program strands, B3, together with its guests and their works, will approach this topic from a socio-political, artistic, philosophical, scientific and economic perspective.
With a few clicks to the whole program
Due to a pandemic, the fifth B3 is being launched worldwide as a hybrid format. It combines virtual elements on the net with real event formats in Frankfurt. Together with an international team of experts, B3 is currently developing suitable interactive platforms for film, art, game and XR programs as well as conferences and events of B3.
"With this mix, we can present ourselves live in Frankfurt in an appropriate manner, but at the same time inspire participants and visitors worldwide with our program and thus further increase our international resonance," says Prof. Bernd Kracke, artistic director of B3 and president of the Hochschule für Gestaltung HfG Offenbach.
This year, B3 is also publishing its complete program on the Internet and will present selected program highlights offline, depending on the epidemiological situation. The cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair and the creative festival THEARTS+ will be continued and expanded, said Kracke.
The B3 BEN Awards and the Frankfurt Book Fair Film Awards will be presented together during the opening ceremony of B3 on 9 October in the Astor Film Lounge and broadcast on the net. The Astor Film Lounge Frankfurt is the new cooperation and location partner of B3. Another new location and cooperation partner is the MyZeil shopping center in downtown Frankfurt.
The Astor Film Lounge and areas of the Shopping Center MyZeil will house highlights of the film program shown online, the conference program and various VR projects.
Parts of the B3 online exhibition on the focus TRUTHS will be presented in the THEARTS+ area at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

About the B3
The future belongs to the moving image Since 2013, the B3 Biennial has determined the cross-genre and cross-national discourse on trends and developments in the moving image in the thematic fields of art, film, games and VR/XR. The aim of the Biennale, which was launched in 2013, is on the one hand to create a broad interdisciplinary alliance for the moving image, and on the other hand to offer the international cultural and creative industries a comprehensive platform for innovation and exchange. The organizer of the B3 Biennial of the Moving Image is the Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG). The B3 is supported by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art (HMWK). Strategic partner of the B3 is THEARTS+. In autumn 2019, the first B3/THEARTS+ welcomed around 147,000 visitors to the Frankfurt Book Fair site.
