Born in 1973, Julien Bismuth lives and works between New York and Paris. His modes of expression vary from performance to theatre, from writing to speaking, from object to text, frequently combining them. His work alternates between plastic works of often minimal aesthetics and performances of which only the protocol remains or objects as the only traces or witnesses of the action. The main concern of the artist is a wide-ranging reflection on the conditions of existence of language and its uses. Some of his works are directly inspired by linguistic concepts and serve as practical cases to test their implications. The artist also tests the limits of language and his work is a constant dialogue between text, image and object, a dialogue necessary to understand what language is.
