Tatjana Stürmer's (1993) work moves between graphic design practice and multimedia installations. She explores how spoken, written, and visual language influence our social and political experiences. Her current focus is on sources of female writing from the early Middle Ages, which she relates to the present in order to deconstruct societal structures of power and powerlessness. Ornament as a feminist and epistemic practice explores how visual forms and processes of collective knowledge production can challenge hierarchical structures and open up alternative modes of relation, representation, and meaning-making.

Stürmer received her diploma in communication design, media arts, and art theory at the HfG Karlsruhe. From 2016 to 2020, she was a scholarship recipient of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. In 2020, she received the sponsorship award from the ZKM/HfG Fördergesellschaft, followed by the Federal Prize for Art Students in 2021, a research grant from Stiftung Kunstfonds in 2022, a fellowship by Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg (2023), a travel scholarship from the Hessian Cultural Foundation for New York City in 2023/24 and 2025 a workstipend by Ottilie-Roederstein Stiftung. In 2026 she will travel to Goyang and Seoul, Korea, for a residency at MMCA.

Her works have been featured in exhibitions at the Badischer Kunstverein Karlsruhe, the Gallery for Contemporary Art in Leipzig (GfZK), the MEWO Kunsthalle Memmingen, Ornamenta24, the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation, Kunsthalle Heilbronn, Landesmuseum Wiesbaden. From 2020 to 2022, she worked at Metahaven in Amsterdam. Since 2022, she has been a artistic researcher and lecturer in the field Graphic Design/Illustration at HfG Offenbach and from 2025 also at the Design Academy Eindhoven, department of the Master-program Geo Design.
